Made in the Image of God
"Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on earth.' God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them." (Genesis 1:26-27).
- This passage says God created mankind. The word "created" is found three times and the word "made" is used once. People and their amazing design are not the result of chance, but they are the result of His design and His plan.
- God created man and woman in His image. In the image of God, He created them. God made all the amazing creatures that fly in the heavens, that rove the earth, or that swim in the waters, but only of man is it said that He is created in God's image. Because human life is so precious then taking human life is a horrible crime that deserves the most serious penalty (Genesis 9:6). Even an animal that takes human life is to be destroyed (Genesis 9:5; Exodus 21:28, 32).
- God created man male and female. Women have reason to rejoice in God's design for them. Men have reason to rejoice in God's plan for them. The two sexes made by God are not created to compete with each other but to complement each other.
